Class instruction includes the use of traditional color and black photographic materials as well as current digital imaging technologies. Coursework is centered on both the exploration of media and on the development of visual literacy.

A field experience in the history, theory, and practice of contemporary landscape photography. The course is centered on a two-week travel expedition in which students camp, hike, study, and photograph in sites throughout the American Southwest.

Big Bend National Park/ Photography Fall Field Experience
This trip is designed to supplement ongoing class instruction within the area of photography. The primary component of this activity is a three-day field experience in Big Bend National Park. Instruction will focus on issues related to the cultural, political, and environmental aspects of land use and interpretation. As part of the field experience students will be asked to consider how these concerns may be integrated into contemporary artistic practice.
